Impressions of a Creative.#1_of_22๐Ÿ˜

Hello Beautiful People,

Welcome to the much-awaited Afro bloggers winter challenge 2021 a month-long storytelling festival.

ย It is a themed party and Today is #Day1 of the creative week, so let’s get CREATIVE.

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word creative as “relating to or involving the use of imagination or original ideas to create something”

I think creatives are artists.

A writer Creative

When I write my mind attempts to bring to life;

Every dream I see when I close my eyes,

The places I go to when I read a book,

How I feel when I marvel at beautiful Nature,

Falling in love.

The wave of emotions behind a painting,

The shiver that rides down my spine when I listen to honest, queer, sweet , true , soft, same, fine, dark, light , good, rich, Melody… I wonder if there is a spot music doesn’t tickle?

The Anger, the pain, the joy ,the love, the dark place , the glowing place.

All of this I try to reflect with the words I write, but even words fail me sometimes because they are not plenty enough. So I write and I write and write and I keep writing.

As I write, I dream the words I draw create a fire enough to provoke change, making the world a better place. One story at a time.

Occasionally, I am asked

Do you get paid for this?

Not now, today it’s a passion project.

I’d like to making a living from this some day,However if I had known earlier that writing could be more than a hobby, I think I would have considered a career in this line.

But first tell me how you tell an African parent. I want to be a writer. Or a Singer, Dancer.

The creative’s journey is not always a happy story, you could get disowned, misunderstood and talked down on until you get paid. It’s always about the money. Then the story changes. But that shouldn’t be the story.

Being creative is a craft. And money answers to craft. But you have got to go through the process of crafting.

To create is a skill it gets better with each creation.

I long for a day when a creative doesn’t have to struggle to be who they are. A day when the arts get shifted from the hobby list to the professional list.

Tomorrow we meet another creative,

A PROFESSIONAL Photography creative

Until shortly then,

Be kind, be humble and spread love.

  1. Most of our African Parents studied in the 70’s or 60’s and just don’t seem to get it why we are struggling even after graduating off campus. My mum was a Makerere Graduate ๐ŸŽ“ of 1973. Immediately she finished campus she was retained as an employee of MUK courtesy of her good performance of attaining first class honours. She began as Librarian 1 with a Diploma and her career took a 360 degree revolution to being a Lecturer with a PhD. How did she do that, she’s just a Heroine. I mean how many people upgrade from Diploma to PhD. Being a lecturer, she got to teach students and had to learn to adjust to the times. So when I woke up one day and told her I want to start out by running a boutique, then run an Online Movie Library and 4 years down the road finding my true calling as a photographer. She was there and supportive. I must say Iam really lucky to have such a parent. My dad on ther other hand wasn’t their that much in my hustle but mum cared to explain to him what it is I do. To all our sweet parents out there the 21st Century is not just about graduating off campus if anything we get away half baked and need skilling. Its our humble support that parents stand with us as creative or youth trying to make sense of our lives. I appreciate my mum who has been there for me all this long. She’s my Heroine
