#01 stages of spiritual growth.

God Monday Beautiful people,

I believe you are doing extraordinary things out there. Be blessed.

So the last time I did a devotion it was on Jesus as the chief cornerstone of our salvation. I was going to build on that but the Lord detoured me.

About 4 years ago I met a Man of God who has since grown to be a friend, brother but above all a Father to me. From conversation we have shared over the years and teachings, I will be sharing in a series called;

From My Father’s Heart.

Today we kick off with finding our position in this walk;

Just like a baby transitions from toddler to child to teenager to adult, so is the same with spirituality, except with spirituality age doesn’t compute to growth.

How do you grow?

Well there is a thing called spiritual food;

  • Praise and worship
  • Fellowship
  • Studying the word
  • Prayer & fasting
  • Holy Communion

I have come to realise that it is important to know which stage of growth/relationship you are at in order to get the place you need to be. Because the extent to which you know the heart of God through relationship is the extent to which purpose becomes Clearer.

(that is how you answer the question what am I here for?)

Let’s look at the stages through scripture.

I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.

I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father.

I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.

I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.

1John 2:12-14 NLT

The 1st stage of spiritual growth, Scripture refers to as “God’s children because your sins have been forgiven” this is that moment when you have given your life to Jesus, the day you confess that he is lord and savior and because of that your sins are forgiven, you have entered into the kingdom and been adopted into sonship. And just like a toddler at this stage is dependant on it’s mum for everything from feeding to having diapers changed the same is with God and his child at this stage. Remember that time you felt like all your prayers were being answered?

Stage 2 is for the “children that know their Father”, At this point you begin to notice the authority of the Father and are accountable to him. In this stage your parents will start to entrust you with some responsibility like to clean yourself up, to feed yourself and to even go to the market to buy groceries. The parent will also withhold somethings from you. In this stage it is important to do everything that God tells you,it’s were obedience is natured. This is the place our will is broken for God’s.

Stage 3 is “you who are young in faith because you know Christ…a young man that has overcome the evil one”. The young man is strong because the word of God lives in him. this stage is like being at the university your parent trusts you to make the right choices and do what you went to do there. They will provide all we need (not sure about what we want) but we don’t expect them to do our assignments for us. In this stage when you feel weak in your spirit(because you can know it) it’s your responsibility to spend time in the presence to gain strength for yourself. God doesn’t give it, You gain it.

Stage 4 “I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning,” Fatherhood is final stage(maybe there is another) This is a child who has shown desire and value for the teachings of the parent (God) and has gained trust and affection for God. Now God loves everyone but doesn’t trust everyone the same way. Trust is built over time. There is a great sacrifice that comes to getting to this place.

I made the confession prayer in January 2007 and it’s 2021,

I find myself in stage 2.

Why? I asked myself. I realise obedience is not as easy as it sounds.

Especially when God asks you to forgive that person that hurt you enough you wish them dead.

It’s a fact that you will never experience somethings in God unless you do what he asks you to do. You have to be willing to lose in order to gain.

My Apostle preached an interesting message a couple of weeks ago, when he said sometimes your breakthrough is locked in an instruction. Your probably stuck because you refuse to do what he said to do. And knowing my Father , he will sit and wait, until you are ready. You make a mess and he will help you clean up but he will still wait and watch.

The bare essential for a believer is faith that comes by hearing. His word says to practice what he tells you and he will add unto you.

“There is living out your passion, but there is a confidence that comes with knowing you have heard from God” ~ you can find this message Here.

I hope you have been blessed by this. Feel free to keep the conversation going.Ask questions, Like ,share and comment.

Until next time,

Be kind, be humble, spread love.

  1. This is powerful
    Obedience is better than sacrifice. I’ve long struggled to obey God’s will for my life. Every time i wanted to do everything according to my own understanding and missed the beauty which comes with obeying and waiting in the Lord.
    Obedience yields patience. I’ve seen it and it has worked miraculously for my life. I never imagined myself to be patient about almost every aspect of my life.

  2. An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do believe that you should publish more about this subject, it may not be a taboo matter but generally people don’t speak about such topics. To the next! Cheers!!
